Alex Sewald
I am a New York-based commercial photographer, specializing in food, drinks, and lifestyle. My passion for capturing the art of food grew from my long-time affair with cooking and eating. I blame it on growing up in South Carolina - a childhood spent immersed in the addictive scent of a deep southern smoked barbecue, what would you expect?
To me, every part of the meal is beautiful. From warm shades of spices contrasting vibrant hues of freshly chopped vegetables to the greasy, oozy, mouthwatering mess of a sloppy burger; I strive to illuminate each dish and make them completely irresistible. Even a dirty, post-meal plate stained with the remnants of what once was holds artistry.
I started my photography career at the Art Institute of Georgia and spent the next 8 years working as a photography assistant for some of the best commercial, lifestyle, and food photographers. My work for Conde Nast, Jack Rudy, Johnston and Murphy, Le Creuset, and Vogue Mexico and has been featured in Departures Magazine, Food Network Magazine, Dwell Magazine, and on Food.com.
After moving to New York, I began working as a lighting technician on major motion pictures and national television shows such as The BlacKkKlansman, John Wick 3, The Blacklist, and God Friended Me. My years of experience combine strong technical skills with the keen eye of someone who truly knows and loves food to create that perfect shot.
